ESS4301 Introduction to Solid State Physics II, 固態物理導論二

Course Description:

This course is to introduce basic understanding of solid state physics to students. This is the second semester course and students are supposed to have taken the course "ESS 4300 Introduction to Solid State Physics (I)" or equivalent one. Solid state physics involves a combination of quantum mechanics (QM) and statistical mechanics (SM) where the primary forces are electrodynamic. Therefore, knowledges in QM and in SM are very useful for this course. The topics of this second semester course include magetisms, magnetic resonance, dielectrics, plasmons, polaritons, polarons, excitons, surface and interface physics, nanostructures, point defects, dislocations, and alloys.
