ICNX2011
International Conference on Neutron and X-ray
Scattering (ICNX2011)
June 27-
Organizers
and sponsors:
National Tsing Hua University (NTHU)
National Synchrotron Radiation Research Center (NSRRC)
Crystallographic Committee, Academia Sinica
Asian Oceania Neutron Scattering Association (AONSA)
National Science Council, Taiwan
Introduction:
The 3rd
ICNX conference will take place from 27th of June to 1st of July,
2011 at
The main topics of the conference:
- Membranes
and interfaces of soft condensed matter
-
Magnetism and highly correlated systems
- Time
resolved in-situ studies and dynamics
- Nanostructured or thin film materials
-
Coherent X-ray scattering and imaging
-
Instrumentation and theory developments
-
Industrial applications using scattering methods
- X-ray
and neutron complementary crystallography
-
Opportunities from new facilities
Objective:
The objective of this conference is to bring together
scientists who develop neutron and X-ray scattering instruments and methods,
perform characterization experiments and data analysis on soft and solid state
matter. The complementary applications of using X-ray and neutron beam give a
better view of the structures of condensed matter. We hope to attract more international
users to exchange more brilliant ideas for the new scattering facilities during
this meeting.

Traveling
information;
The weather in Taiwan during the end of June is about 25-35¢J. The electricity and plug (type A and B) is similar
to the type used in USA, 110V/60 Hz. There will be no tip needed for the taxi, restaurant
and hotel room in Taiwan. The service charge usually included in the listed
price. Of cause if you are willing to pay the tip, they will accept anyway. To
buy something, most of big store opened at 10:00 and closed at 22:00 every day.
Many convenient stores open 24 h at almost every corner in the city. Usually,
the price in big department store or supermarket is not negotiable. However,
for a traditional market, you can ask for a small discount if you buy more. The
taxi (yellow cab), is very convenient in Taiwan, they are charged according to
the standard taxi-driver¡¦s meter. However, for a long distance drive, negotiate
the price with the taxi driver is a better way to save your money.
Money Exchange:
The exchange rate is about 1 US$=NT$28.5-NT$29 (New
Taiwan Dollars). Many banks and major hotels in Taiwan provide the money
exchange service. The banking hour is 9:00-15:30 Monday-Friday. The most
convenient place to exchange the money is at airport. The same exchange rate is
fixed for each bank across the Taiwan. Service charge, about NT$100 each time,
might be applied.
Transportation
information: update June 4, 2011
The best way to National Tsing Hua University and to the
closest Hotel (Taiwan Hsinchu Berkeley Hotel) across
the street of National Tsing Hua
Univeristy is by Taiwan High speed railway (THSR) as
following:
For most travelers, first, go to bank to exchange
the NT$ money for whole period in Taiwan you need. Then, go to the bus ticket
offices in the airport, looking for U-bus ticket booth. Buy the ticket to Taoyuan high speed railway station. It is Route 705; the
bus leaving time is printed on the ticket; the bus interval is 10-15 min. It
takes 20 min to reach Taoyuan high speed railway
station without stop. Go outside the building and looking for the bus stop of Route
705. The U-bus is a green bus. (Most of the routines of bus go to Taipei. If
you take the wrong bus to Taipei, then, ask information desk about how to get Hsinchu by bus or by THSR from Taipei to Hsinchu after arriving Taipei bus station) Then, take the south bound high speed train
to Hsinchu station (one stop, ticket fare will be NT$125-
non-reservation or NT$130- seat reservation, 15 min). Buy the one way ticket to
Hsinchu from the vending machine or the counter (no
discount for round trip). The passenger who purchased non-reserved ticket
should go to train 9,10,11. After arriving Hsinchu high speed railway station, take exit 4, walk 60
meters south to the shuttle bus station. Take the free shuttle bus (route no.
2, leave every 20 min.) to the National Tsing Hua University. Your Hotel (Taiwan Hsinchu
Berkeley Hotel) is only 20 meters east from the bus stop of National Tsing Hua University. The free shuttle
bus takes 20 min at the third stops (1. Hakke Village; 2. National Chia-Tung
University; 3. National Tsing
Hua University). If you reserve the hotel at Hsinchu downtown, please stay on the free shuttle bus until
last stop at downtown Hsinchu city. In total, it
takes about 90 min. including the waiting time. Please notice that: The last
U-bus to THSR Taoyuan station is 22:45; The last THSR to Hsinchu is 23:21
and the last free shuttle from THSR station is 23:45 to NTHU. If you missed the
U-bus, then take those buses to Taipei bus station, then
from Taipei bus station, take night bus to Hsinchu.
The last bus leaves at 1:00 AM from Taipei to Hsinchu.
Riding a taxi is the easiest way
from Taoyuan International airport (CKS airport) to
NTHU/Hsinchu. It takes 40 min and cost about NT$1500
for one way. Negotiate the price with taxi driver before getting on the taxi. For
THSR information see www.thsrc.com.tw
The public bus service between NTHU and Taipei city
takes 80 min and the bus leave NTHU about every 10 min. The first bus leave at 5:30, and the last bus at 23:00 usually. The fare
is about NT$150 for one trip (10% discount for round trip, but you have to take
the bus of the same company). You can also take the free shuttle bus in front
of NTHU to THSR Hsinchu station and north bound for
Taipei (fare about NT$290). The high speed train leaves Hsinchu
station every 30 min and it takes 30 min to Taipei.
There
are free shuttle bus on the campus in 15 min interval
during the weekdays. You can take the bus from the main gate of NTHU to the department
of engineering and system science where the conference is taking place to save
800 meters of walking distance. The free shuttle bus to NSRRC is in every hour
